The latest on Stamford Downtown and the Ferguson Library
STAMFORD — With so much happening in the city, the Current is sharing some news about a couple of local organizations. From ice sculptures and porcine artwork to an annual event celebrating a Stamford resident active in the community, here’s what you need to know.
Stamford Downtown
This weekend, the Fire & Ice Festival will return to Columbus Park for a second year. There will be live music, ice sculpting and an ice photo frame, fire pits, vendors, and more.
On Saturday, January 25, it will begin at 2:00 pm and go until 6:00 pm. The free community event is presented by the Stamford Downtown Special Services District and sponsored by YOGASIX Stamford. Media partners include Hey Stamford!, Star 99.9, WEBE 108, and WICC.
Speaking of sculpting, Stamford Downtown is also seeking artist designs for a new public art exhibit titled “OINK! in Stamford Downtown.” It will be similar to previous exhibits like Duck, Duck, Goose; Space Invasion; Art Shapes; Dinosaurs Rule; and Horsin’ Around.
According to a press release, through a juried selection process, artists “will paint and decorate 26 fiberglass pigs that will be displayed throughout Stamford Downtown June through August, 2025.”
More information can be found here. All applications are due to the Stamford Downtown office by Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
Ferguson Library
The Ferguson Library’s annual fundraiser, A Novel Affair, will be held on Thursday, April 10, from 6:00 - 8:30 pm at the Main Library branch in the DiMattia Building. Longtime Stamford resident Eileen Rosner will be honored for her many contributions to the library and community.
According to an announcement, Rosner, who has lived in Stamford since 5 years old, taught for 38 years at Stevens, Riverbank, and Roxbury elementary schools. She also created the Temple Beth El library and helped run the Jewish Historical Society Library at the Jewish Community Center.
After retiring, Rosner began volunteering in the Friends Book Shop, where she has served on the board as secretary, vice-president, and president, and later ran the annual Stamford Literary Competition, for which she has been chair for two decades.
Additionally, Rosner serves on the Stamford History Center’s board, and was president of Temple Beth El and the Sisterhood of Temple Beth El. She was an officer for the PT Council and the Jewish Historical Society of Fairfield County. As well, Rosner was on the Stamford Theatre Works board and served as education advisor for the Ballet School of Stamford.
Per the release, A Novel Affair “is the Ferguson Library’s signature benefit, raising funds to help provide vital library services to the Stamford community.”
Early registration begins on Wednesday, February 12, with tickets available for $175 through Saturday, March 15, when it increases to $200.
