Community Invited to Library Event with Author for Urban Policy Discussion
Happy Hour Opportunity to Follow
STAMFORD — The Ferguson Library will host Slate Magazine journalist Henry Grabar for a conversation about the parking situation in cities like Stamford, transportation, and similar topics on Wednesday, September 11. The event will be held from 6:30 - 7:30 pm in the Main Library’s Third Floor Auditorium.
Grabar, who is the author of “Paved Paradise: How Parking Explains the World,” covers housing, transportation, and other urban policies as a staff writer for Slate.
During his career, he has been a contributor to several media outlets, including The Atlantic, The Guardian, and The Wall Street Journal. Additionally, Grabar served as editor of the book, “The Future of Transportation.”
He was selected for the Richard Rogers Fellowship at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and was a finalist for the Livingston Award for excellence in national reporting, which recognizes journalists under 35 years old for their efforts in the news industry.
The conversation is hosted in partnership with People Friendly Stamford, a community organization “working to create safe walkable and bikeable neighborhoods, improve transit, reduce car-dependency, and support housing abundance.”
Registration is required and available here for free. In collaboration with Elm Street Books, attendees will be able to purchase a copy of the book and have it signed by Grabar. The book is also available to take out from the Library here.
Once the Library conversation concludes, People Friendly Stamford will co-host a “Pro-Homes Happy Hour” with statewide organization Desegregate CT, a self-described movement to make Connecticut “more equitable, prosperous, and green.” It will be held around the corner at Towne Parlor (112 Bedford Street) starting at 7:30 pm.
