Mayor’s Multicultural Council’s “Afternoon of Jazz” Returns for 2024 at Ferguson Library
Popular annual concert will host local and national musicians
STAMFORD — This Sunday, March 24, the Mayor’s Multicultural Council (MMC) and Ferguson Library are joining forces to host the annual “Afternoon of Jazz.” The free event, which will be held from 2-4:30pm, will feature a collection of talented artists from Stamford and beyond.
According to a press release, the popular event will celebrate “the diversity and global appeal” of jazz music.
With doors opening at 1:30pm, the Library’s Dudley N. Williams, Jr. Auditorium at the downtown branch will be the venue as singers and musicians provide a free concert for attendees.
Participating jazz artists include:
Stamford High School Jazz Ensemble directed by Adam Jackson
Solo performance by world-class saxophonist Jim Clark
Ayana Doreste’s rich and soulful vocals accompanied by Stamford legendary jazz guitarist, Gabriel Mondesir
Latin Jazz quartet with multi-lingual Barbara Espinosa Occhino (vocals), Carmine Marino (guitar), Luiz Ebert (drums), and Steve Taylor (bass)
The MMC, whose mission “is to inform, celebrate, promote, understand, appreciate and respect the many diverse cultures that enrich the City of Stamford,” has hosted the jazz concert for seven years now.

Admission is free and light refreshments will be available. Given the popularity of the concert each year, seating will be limited. Anyone interested in attending should contact the MMC no later than Sunday, March 23, by email at mayorsmcc@stamfordct.gov or call Council Secretary Ana Gallegos (203) 219-0817. On Sundays, there is free public meter and lot parking available until 5pm.
