STAMFORD — On Sunday, May 4, Connecticut’s top fiscal watchdog will visit the city for a community discussion about the impact of possible healthcare cuts at the federal level on the state’s budget and related themes.
State Comptroller Sean Scanlon will appear at “Federal Healthcare Cuts, How Will They Impact You?” from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm at First Presbyterian Church (1101 Bedford Street). The gathering is hosted by the Stamford Democratic City Committee, Indivisible Stamford, and the Greater Stamford Young Democrats.
According to the event description, Scanlon will participate in a moderated talk followed by a Q&A with attendees. The focus will be “how potential cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and other critical programs will harm Connecticut’s budget and healthcare system.”
A recent congressional budget resolution passed by Republicans in the majority would potentially slash some $880 billion from Medicaid. An analysis from the Center for American Progress released on Wednesday, April 23, found that such a drastic cut might result in more than 34,000 American deaths.
Free registration for the upcoming conversation is available here.
Scanlon, who was first elected as state comptroller in 2022, previously served eight years in the State House of Representatives. He served the 98th District, which covers Branford and Guilford.
During his legislative tenure, Scanlon spent time as House chair for the Insurance Committee and, later, the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee.
