Block Parties
After the success of an inaugural block party on lower Summer Street in late June 2024 to celebrate the road’s redesign to be more pedestrian friendly and a similar one held this year on Thursday, June 26, there will be a new edition of the well-attended community event soon.
The next block party will be on Thursday, August 21, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. One had also been scheduled for today, Thursday, July 31. However, it was canceled due to excessive heat predicted in the weather forecast.
Presented in partnership with the City of Stamford, each occasion features local vendors, live music, outdoor dining opportunities, and other activities.
Kindness Initiative
On Monday, July 28, Stamford Downtown announced the creation of a Kindness Thank You Card, a new project to spread positivity throughout the district.
According to the press release, the cards, which are two inches by three and a half inches and feature the Stamford Downtown logo, are meant to express appreciation for people who make a proactive effort to spread kindness in the downtown area.
“Our goal is to foster a spirit of community and appreciation. These small moments of kindness often go unnoticed, but they are what truly make Stamford special,” Stamford Downtown Director of Public Realm Operations Mike Little said. “This initiative gives us a way to say thank you and support our local businesses at the same time.”
The card will be distributed by members of the Stamford Downtown Ambassadors team as well as community partners. The announcement listed several examples for how individuals can receive the card, including “holding a door, helping a neighbor, picking up garbage off the street, or simply sharing a smile.”
As a token of the recognition, recipients will get to redeem the card for “one select item” at Lorca Coffee Bar, Bedford Hall Craft Kitchen & Bar, or Towne Parlor Pizza & Pints, all establishments owned by John Gazzola, who is supporting the new program.
“Stamford Downtown wishes for these cards to help foster a welcoming environment in our City Center,” Stamford Downtown President Michael Moore said.
A complete list of participating companies will be provided on the Stamford Downtown website.
