STAMFORD — Family Centers, an education, human, and health services organization, is expanding operations to a city school and local public servants gathered with community members to celebrate the occasion.
On Wednesday, October 16, Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04), Mayor Caroline Simmons, and State Representative Rachel Khanna joined students, staff, and health professionals to open a new Family Centers health facility at Turn of River Middle School.
“This health center is a vital addition to this community that prioritizes the health and well-being of every student,” Family Centers Chief Health Officer Dennis Torres said in a press release. “It represents the shared commitment of Family Centers and the City of Stamford to provide accessible, quality healthcare right here on-site, ensuring students can focus on their studies knowing their healthcare needs are fully supported.”
Also in attendance were Family Centers CEO Bob Arnold, Stamford Public Schools Superintendent Tamu Lucero, Turn of River Principal Mark Bonasera, and Turn of River Student Ambassador Rudrh Nair, who all spoke about the importance of the new health center and ensuring that students have the right resources to thrive in their classes and beyond.
While increasing access to medical and mental health care for city youth, the announcement indicated that the new health facility will be constructed in an “unused locker room and will add primary medical care to the existing mental health services available to Turn of River students.”
According to the release, it is planned for the facility to be fully operational by the end of the current academic year.
