Stamford Nonprofit Hosting Gala to Celebrate 11 Years of Empowering Youth Through Music
Event Will Feature Addams Family Musical
STAMFORD — A community organization is planning an evening to recognize the importance of engaging young residents through arts and music as part of their mission. On Friday, November 14, PROJECT MUSIC will convene a performance of a popular musical at Stamford CoCreate with proceeds benefitting their work to provide students with life skills through music.
From 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm, the organization’s 11th Anniversary Gala will be held in partnership with the Tee & Charles Addams Foundation and include the Addams Family Musical, which is celebrating fifteen years, with Broadway performers and professional artists serving in roles alongside some of PROJECT MUSIC’s own students.
According to a press release, the musical “will feature Broadway star Rachel Potter, who made her Broadway debut as Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family. During her time on Broadway, she shared the stage with legends Bebe Neuwirth and Brooke Shields.” Potter will be joined by Liam Gelling and Eliza Heaton as Gomez Addams and Morticia Addams, respectively.
“Our upcoming Gala is going to be a ‘one of a kind’ event. With The Addams Family as our theme, we will have musical selections by Broadway Stars and our own talented PROJECT MUSIC students performing. Delicious tastings by the Rosemary Group will be a delight to the palette,” Honorary Chair and Elite Gala Sponsor Angelica Cantlon said. “Don’t miss your opportunity to join us for a fun evening in support of the impactful work of our PROJECT MUSIC faculty and students. Buy your tickets and see you there!”
The evening will feature an exclusive performance of The Addams Family “Overture,” a recording by PROJECT MUSIC students just days prior under the direction of award-winning composer and lyricist Andrew Lippa.
Admission is $200 per person. Tickets, sponsorships, and more information are available here.
“We are very fortunate to have a community filled with supporters and well-wishers who help us achieve our mission at PROJECT MUSIC of making music education accessible to as many students as possible, particularly those from underserved communities. Events like this not only help us raise essential funds to sustain our programs, but also shine a light on the importance of our work,” PROJECT MUSIC Board President Shivani Chitalia said. “By keeping youth engaged through music, PROJECT MUSIC helps build confidence, connection, and resilience thereby empowering the students to reach their full potential. Studies continue to show that children who have access to music education perform better academically and are more likely to thrive later in life.”
PROJECT MUSIC was founded in July 2014 and based on an earlier version of the program from 1967. It is shaped by the Venezuelan music education initiative known as “El Sistema.”
