Sublime with Rome Rocks Stamford During Alive At Five
Sublime Fans Pack Mill River Park for the City’s Annual Summer Concert Series

STAMFORD — On Thursday, July 25, Mill River Park transitioned from the usual park atmosphere to a bustling concert scene for this year’s first Alive At Five performance. After 5:00 pm sharp, Sublime with Rome fans began parading through the commons with blankets and lawn chairs in tow at this 21+ event.
The park, which will host the concert series for three consecutive weeks this summer, offered several food and drink options for attendees, including outposts from local eateries like Hop & Vine Taproom, Penny Cha Bubble Tea, Blind Rhino, and Daniel’s Food Truck.
In addition to Alive At Five community partner Person to Person, several businesses and brands have also set up shop around the fountain, such as Fine Fettle Dispensary, Mohegan Sun Casino, Reign Energy Drinks, Waste Innovations, and others. Most notable was the Poland Springs booth, a sponsor of Alive At Five, which supplied concertgoers with complimentary water bottles throughout the night. Attendees could also purchase drink tickets for $10, which could be redeemed for either a beer or canned cocktail.
At around 6:30 pm, the music began. Rock band King Falcon from Queens, NY, warmed the crowd up with some of their popular hits like “Ready Set Go,” “Shake Shake Shake,” “Rabbit Gets the Gun,” and more. The band, which consists of lead singer Michael Rubin, drummer James Terranova, and bassist Tom Diognardi, also treated audiences to a cover of Paramore’s “crushcrushcrush.”

The night’s headliner, Sublime with Rome, took to the stage at about 8:00 pm, opening with Sublime’s 1997 hit “Summertime.” The band followed with “Smoke Two Joints,” before segwaying into some of their original music like “Blessings” and “Cool and Collected.”
Lead singer Rome Ramirez, a California native, kept the crowd entertained in between songs with some light banter on all the essential topics like smoking weed, the hellacious tri-state traffic, and the brow-raising real estate prices in the area. He did give credit where it was due, though, saying, "You have a very beautiful city here, Stamford.”
Rome also gave audiences a peek into his career trajectory and how he worked at Sbarro’s before he was headlining shows. He shared that he wouldn’t be the rockstar he is today without the fans and, more importantly, his mother, to whom he dedicated the song “Light On.” He also gave shoutouts to his bandmates, drummer Joe Tomino, bassist and backup vocalist Brian Allen, and trombonist and keyboardist Gabrial McNair.
Sublime with Rome also played their new song “Black and Blue,” as well as some older tracks like “Take it or Leave It” and their cover of Lee Fields' "Forever.” The ska alternative rockers ended the exciting Thursday night event with a three-song encore, playing their renditions of Sublime’s “Badfish,” “What I Got,” and “Santeria.”
By 9:30 pm, the show was over and the city began to return to its regular groove. But the party will start again in a little less than a week at Mill River Park.
Coming Up: Lil’ Kim and Wyclef Jean
Next week, DJ Taela Naomi will perform before hip-hop star LIl’ Kim takes the Alive At Five stage to get her concert going. The following week, Buck n Regg of Hot 93.7 will start before Wyclef Jean plays some of his popular tunes. Tickets for both shows can be purchased here.
