STAMFORD — The inaugural edition of the Summer in the Park concert series will kick off on Thursday, July 10, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm in Mill River Park. The first night will feature headliners Busta Rhymes and Fabolous with popular DJ Funkmaster Flex spinning tunes.
The music will keep flowing through the weekend with other performances planned and more festivities coming in the next few weeks. Keep reading for all the latest details.
July 10
Busta Rhymes is a rapper who got his start in the mid-1980s with his group Leaders of the New School. Since then, he has collaborated with hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest as well as musical artists Mary J. Blige, Tech N9ne, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, and LL Cool J.
Including his solo career, the rapping legend boasts a dozen combined Grammy nominations and 16 MTV Video Music Award nominations in addition to four nominations and six wins for the BET Hip Hop Awards.
Fabolous has been making a name for himself in the hip-hop space since his first album, Ghetto Fabolous, was released in 2001. To date, the artist has performed with Pharrell Williams, T-Pain, Trey Songz, Pusha T, J. Cole, and Wale. Fabolous also has two Grammy nominations on top of two BET Hip Hop Awards nominations and a win.
Funkmaster Flex is a DJ, rapper, producer, and host on Hot 93.7, a New York City hip-hop radio station. At just 16 years old, the artist was already DJing in local clubs. So far, he has worked with Biz Markie, DMX, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Jay-Z, Method Man, Nas, and Snoop Dogg.
This event is only open to individuals aged 21 years old and above.
July 11
Tomorrow, as part of Summer Fun Fridays, Bon Jovi tribute band Raise Your Hands will hit the stage to play some classic rock songs and get the crowd grooving.
The evening will include happy hour specials all night from themed bars as well as options from local food vendors. The gathering will be from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. All attendees must be at least 21 years old.
July 12
This Saturday, pop duo Aly & AJ will perform a concert featuring some of their popular tunes. The two sisters, who came to fame with a Disney Channel show, released their first studio album in 2005.
Their music has earned them eight award wins, including an American Music Awards win, and another three nominations. Also going from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, the event will be open to everyone regardless of age.
July 13
On Sunday, The Midtown Men, original stars from Broadway’s Jersey Boys musical, will play a free, family-friendly concert. The event description indicates that the group will “take you on a nostalgic journey through the greatest hits of the 1960s, including songs by The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Four Seasons, Motown, and more.”
Anyone planning to attend is recommended to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Doors will open at 4:00 pm with the performance to follow at 6:00 pm.
