Stamford Fire Chief Receives National Recognition
Morris was Recipient of Award at Industry Conference
STAMFORD — The leader of the city’s fire department was honored with a distinguished award at a top conference for firefighters on Thursday, April 10.
Stamford Fire Department Chief Robert “Rex” Morris Sr. received the Tom Brennan Lifetime Achievement Award at the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) International 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana during the Day 2 opening ceremony.
According to a Stamford Fire Department press release, “[t]he honor was bestowed in recognition of Chief Morris’s decades-long commitment to the fire service and his impact on firefighter training and leadership nationwide.”
Morris previously served in New York City’s fire department, the Fire Department of New York (FDNY), for four decades prior to joining the Stamford Fire Department in 2014 as Assistant Chief of Volunteers.
“Chief Morris embodies the very best of public service – dedication, humility, and a relentless commitment to excellence,” Mayor Caroline Simmons said. “This national recognition is a testament to his extraordinary leadership and the profound impact he has made on the fire service, not just in Stamford and New York City, but across the country.”
The Stamford Fire Department’s announcement indicated that Morris has influenced thousands of firefighters through his involvement with FDIC and during his career.
“We are incredibly proud of Chief Morris,” Stamford Fire Department Assistant Chief Mike Robles said. “This recognition reflects his lifelong dedication to the fire service and the respect he has earned from colleagues across the country. His leadership continues to inspire all of us here in Stamford.”
Morris began his current tenure as chief of the Stamford Fire Department in January 2024.
